  • CLEP - F.A.Q.

How do I register for the test?

You can register online at http://testing.las.uh.edu by using a credit card (Currently enrolled UH students may be billed).

When is the CLEP test offered?

The computer-based CLEP is offered Monday through Saturday several times a day.

How many CLEP tests can I take in one day?

It is recommended that you take no more than two different subject CLEP exams in one day; one in the morning session, and the other in the afternoon session.

What CLEP subject tests are offered at the University of Houston?

34 different CLEP examinations are offered at the University of Houston.

How much does each CLEP test administration cost?

The fee for each (subject or general) CLEP test is $60.00 ($65.00 as of July 1, 2007) and must be paid on the day of the test by credit card (preferred), cashier`s check, or money order made payable to CLEP.
The University Testing Service fee is $20.00 per test and must be paid at the time of registration. The $20.00 fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.
If you cannot come for your test on the specified test date, you just have to reregister again at http://testing.las.uh.edu.

Do I have to wait six months before I can take the same CLEP exam?

Yes. CLEP tests may be repeated after a six-month waiting period from your original test date. Scores on tests repeated earlier than six months will be canceled and the test fees forfeited.

When do I receive my CLEP scores?

Score reports are available immediately - they are printed directly at the end of each testing session. If you take the English Composition with Essay test, you will receive one combined score after the essay has been scored, usually one to three weeks after your test date.

    How long is the test?

Each test is 90 minutes long and, except for English Composition with Essay, is made up primarily multiple-choice questions; however, some exams do have questions that require test takers to type in an answer. For the English Composition with Essay, the test taker is required to type a 45-minute essay in addition to completing a 45-minute multiple-choice section.

Can I request additional CLEP transcripts?

Yes. To request additional transcripts (a report of your CLEP scores sent to one or more recipients), please call the CLEP Transcript Request Service at 800.257.9558. There is a $20.00 fee for each transcript you request. Please include your name (at testing time), date of birth, social security number, exam title, test date, location you tested, and where you want the transcript to be sent.
