Parent Education Project
The Mission of the UH Parent Education Project is to enhance the lives of at-risk children and families in the Greater Houston area. Our approaches to this have changed over the 30+ years that we have been in operation.
We are a totally grant-funded Project and a component of UH Learning & Assessment Services. Our offices are located in the Student Services Center 1 on campus, but much of our work is done out in the community.
The UH Parent Education Project offers the following services, free of charge, to families in the Greater Houston Area.
- Families CAN – a parent case management program that provides case management or other services to 300+ families a year who are raising a child with a special health care need.
- Family Based Alternatives Project – a specialized program that strives to work with birth parents or guardians to successfully coordinate the movement children in institutions to long-term placements with either their own or a support family.
- Relatives As Parents Program – a program that provides information, education, case management, support groups and other services to relatives who find themselves raising their kin children.
