PAWS for Learning
Program Description

PAWS, the LSS personalized and web-based services for learning program, is intended to increase support for student success at the University of Houston. Membership is open to any student who is currently enrolled at UH. (See mandatory orientation dates below*). PAWS will include all of LSS services that are currently available, with the following additions:


  • Assess for Success — students will be given assessments on learning strategies during the orientation at the beginning of each semester. This will help us guide participants in how to improve their learning.
  • Online Tutoring — students who participate in PAWS will have access to math tutoring online. This is in addition to one to one in person tutoring at LSS.
  • Assigned Tutoring — participants who are having difficulty with any specific course tutored by LSS can meet with a Learning Strategies Counselor, who will assess needs and make assignments as possible.
  • Online Workshops — workshops on issues such as Time Management and Stress Management will be available online. They can be accessed through the PAWS system from any computer.
  • Study Groups — PAWS participants will be invited to engage in both in person study groups and online study groups with other participants. This is intended to help students help themselves.
  • Search Engine — participants can use the LSS search engine which finds and links to several learning sites through the internet.
  • Resources for Learning Support - handouts on learning strategies and the Tutorial (LSS Newsletter) will be available through the PAWS site. A link to the LSSVobac blog intended to assist students in building a strong vocabulary will be available.
  • Much, much more...LSS PAWS is dedicated to bringing you all of the resources of Learning Support Services and more!

*There is a mandatory orientation at the beginning of each semester. For fall 2009, you may register online for any one of the two orientations (Thursday, August 27, 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.; OR Friday, August 28, 10:00 to 11:30 p.m.).
